State legislators who care about teen pregnancy and want to decrease abortion have an easy, cheap, kind, data-proven solution available that does not require putting social workers in prison. Increase access to contraception and sex ed. It’s almost like these laws are not ACTUALLY ABOUT ABORTION.

I assume that’s a feature, not a bug. People using the wrong restroom for their gender presentation will result in hysteria, violence, and chaos, which can then be used further to demonize trans people and further restrict them. Exactly what Nancy Mace wants.
I’ll say here what I’ve said about state versions of such rules: Proponents are quickly going to realize they’re a lot more uncomfortable forcing people to use the wrong restroom for their gender presentation.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Wednesday that transgender individuals would not be allowed into restroom facilities in the Capitol and House office buildings that do not correspond with their sex assigned at birth.
