The problem with my kids is they also can’t write…literally. Handwriting and spelling are a crapshoot. Plus the complete lack of any stamina in terms of writing full sentences or paragraphs. It makes me want to scream.

Today was the Dawes Act compared to Homestead Act, and I asked them to think back to Treaty of Fort Laramie and Little Bighorn for further context.

That doesn’t make it good, but it makes it a fundamental facet of sociopolitical change in this country, and the constant rhetoric that normalizes hate and violence has reached a natural conclusion.

They have to make a case with evidence from our historical thinking skills that we started the year with, so I hope they realize the evidence is not pointing to that, but alas we shall see.
