Ty! I can see that too, like a quiet grief in her expression.

Walla, I wonder that too. Lebanese identity also perplexes me... there was an episode of Beirut Banyan podcast that talked about this. Feels like there’s just so many layers to the Lebanese identity question.

Thank you for the reccos. Modern history I’ve read half. I’ll add Kassir’s book to my reading list!

This: “I have watched, perpetually slack jawed, as Musk has kept poisoning the well further, and people I know, love and respect keep merrily drinking from it.”

It’s so hard with so much happening… Any history books on Lebanon/Beirut you recommend?

Good point and that’s the conundrum. My conclusion, like yours, is that he doesn’t care about human rights, even in his own country. He’ll do anything that benefits him tho. And I assume Iranians who want his intervention understand it wouldn’t come without something in return.

My observation is Pahlavi supporters are more vocal about wanting US intervention. (E.g., Ghamari, Tusi, etc.,) I think at the end of the day, no matter what political isle people are on, they all want the same thing for Iran - to just live freely like some other countries.

That’s just terrible. 😢

Other than that, the parts I visited in lebanon felt relatively safe. Didn’t go south tho…

When I was in Beirut this summer some H-people riding on motorcycles drove past, I think near an area by the Cornishe. I was at a big pharmacy near there. They told us not to go outside until they pass. Same people?
