Thanks to EGU for this. As the saying goes, either we hang together, or surely we shall hang separately:

CSL is a NOAA lab that has been foundational in atmospheric chemistry & air quality science. They are now losing young scientists that are among the best/brightest of the next generation. This degrades not just CSL but our ability to track pollution & protect health.

I am loving listening to the audiobook version of Ayana’s latest work, What If We Get It Right, which we heard about when she spoke at HMC in 2022. If you aren’t familiar with her, you should be! And she’s a fellow SIO grad!
My first interview in this awful new political era.

TLDR: Yes, it’s harder when we have a government that clearly doesn’t give a shit. That doesn’t mean we can’t make the world better than it would have been if we hadn’t tried at all. What is our role in human history? 🧐

Predicting the path of tornados, the landfall of hurricanes, or whether it's going to rain next Monday might seem like magic. But it's not. It's the hard work of the people at NOAA who make the impossible possible through science. This is dangerous.
Layoffs hit federal climate, weather agency NOAA
The cuts could affect NOAA's weather forecasts, climate research and other functions.
