I like cooking, movies, books, Go/baduk, old-school shaving, Esperanto. I follow a whole-food non-animal diet (because health) with occasional exceptions. I make tempeh (black lentil & purple barley shown) & wrote a book on making it at home. (It's easy.)

78 hours from start to finish.
A square slab of tempeh on a cutting board with the (rounded) edges trimmed. The main slab is entirely white, except for a few scattered dots where some desi chickpeas are visible. The cut edges reveal slices through chickpeas and rye, with the chickpeas noticeably larger, both embedded in the white matrix of the mycelium.

@mmasnick.bsky.social Is there some particular reason Techdirt wants to stick with X for followers and avoid Bluesky? Is it that dropping X in favor of Bluesky is too political? Or is it just dogged support for Elon Musk? Here's the Techdirt heading: can follow on X, no Bluesky present.

My current batch of tempeh, soybean & Kamut®, at 24 hours. It should be done in 48 more hours. Only work so far: cooking beans and grain (grain done in grain cooker, so no work), letting them cool and dry, mixing in vinegar and starter, and bagging them.

When shopping at my grocery store yesterday, I found this enormous white oyster mushroom. I had just bought a Foragers Galley kit for lion's mane mushrooms, so I was pleased to see that the kits work. Kits can be ordered from FG or purchased in local stores (listed on their website).
A brown cardboard box on which "Foragers Galley" is printed in large letters and "Grow-At-Home Mushroom Kit" in small letters. A small label stuck on the box reads "Demo Kit - Mist Me." The box contains a small plastic bottle with spray top and an enormous white oyster mushroom.
