reminder: climate fatalism becomes starkly absurd when you put it in literal, immediate and physical terms.
Oh no there's just no way we can ever stop handing billions in subsidies to this coal mining company. Damn, we're doomed. Guess we just keep on doin it

You realise "climate change is inevitable" is absurd when you reword it as "fossil fuels are inevitable" or "Exxon is inevitable" or "Rishi Sunak is inevitable"
It's a threat built of causes which we can identify and fight. Fatalism is pro-fossil. Be pro-fighting, instead ✊🏽

There are ways to mitigate and adapt to extreme events, like stopping the burning of fossil fuels and building early warning systems (or not firing people who make forecasts and coordinate with local officials), but prayer is not one of them.

The missing piece of this viral post is that the Texas officials are lying and deflecting blame. The NWS, hobbled as it is, issued an accurate flood watch for Kerr County the evening before and accurate escalating warnings overnight as the flood was developing.
After media reports & experts warned for months that drastic & sudden cuts at the Nat Weather Service by Trump could impair their forecasting ability & endanger lives during the storm season, TX officials blame an inaccurate forecast by NWS for the deadly results of the flood.

Energy efficiency is the unsung hero of Europe’s industrial competitiveness.
Without efficiency gains since 2000, industry would use 1/3 more energy—costing tens of billions more every year.
It’s not just energy prices that matter, but how smartly we use energy.
