Haha I had a similar reaction when I got that notification. That specific book informed a lot of how I approached media theories during my cultural studies bachelor.

Also also wanna add that this is just me thinking out loud. Recently had an interesting discussion with a friend about the terms Elf / Elb / Fee / Fairy and all that, which got kinda muddled at first because of subjective differences (valid but confusing :D)

But I also want to say it's a useful descriptor to give people an idea what you're talking about in the broadest sense. From what I've seen the term has evolved organically (pls correct me if I'm wrong) so people kinda know what it means. Difference being "it's a cozy game" vs. "it's my cozy game".

Anyways, since the beginning of this year I've been slowly getting into Warhammer, which feels so weird to me because of this preamble. That is all.

How do you (if at all) tackle the question of fun / enjoyment when it comes to analysing a game? Is it important to your specific area? I often feel like I can't connect the scientific view with the popular lens, it's not strictly necessary but I think sometimes it could be beneficial.

The movie lacked the grandeur that I usually associate with Middle-earth, but I think that was a good thing in this case. It didn't try to be more then a relatively self-contained story.

But I also kinda want to bring my ME1 Character along (and get that sweet achievement). Well, the decision can wait for a bit. Right now it's Tower Defense time with Go Home Dinosaurs :D Palate cleanser in the best kind of way.

I replayed 2 during Christmas / New Years 2023/24. So it's still fresh. I'm motivated to play 3, especially because my playthrough of 2 during that time was under the guise of analysing its depiction of AI and adjacent topics, and I want to continue that now.

I haven't played other Thief games or Dishonored (yet) so maybe that all us better executed there, but in a vacuum it is very enjoyable.
