Been awhile since I posted, but I fixed all the lighting bugs and have been messing with making the shadows softer. I really need to figure out how to do this with a shader, this is the best I could get by averaging the light levels of the surrounding tiles.

Debugging the lighting system has driven me to the point of various forms of rainbows to try to track down why these few random spots next to the walls won't light up 🌈

(I am actually losing my mind over this bug, it's been a week, please send help)

Am I a total dork for putting little ASCII diagrams alongside my internal documentation? It takes time to do effectively, but helps a lot if I'm revisiting code I haven't touched in a long time!

Nine days later and I finally got the shadows to be "good enough" for now. They're not perfect, and there's a few bugs I need to fix, but I am sick of doing shadows and I want to start adding more things to the engine lol

This is FAR from perfect, but after 3 days fiddling with it I finally got some shadowcasting working. Kind of. It sucks, but it kinda works how I meant it to.

I wanted to test if my rendering method was performant so I changed the 100 boxes from the first post to 1000 and I'm pretty sure Storage Wars would have a field day in here #gamedev

Someone left a bunch of boxes in my dungeon!

I got the sight cones sorted out, this could be made shorter (or narrower!) for a darker room.

I also reworked how the tile map stores data, so "cells" can contain multiple tiles, and they're offset properly when drawn!

It's going okay so far, not yet sure how I want to expand this to a cone shape since I want to avoid checking the same points multiple times, but I've worked with this line algorithm enough times in other projects to get to this point easily enough
