From a colonial modernity lens, we are conditioned not to question whether or not progress is good. Progress has become synonymous with “innovation” and we should probably start thinking about these terms more critically.

Unfortunately the land transfer has not happened yet, things at the City are pretty much at a stand still.

On January 25, 2022, a NoM was tabled to initiate the process that would facilitate a transfer of land, to the IGP Society, at the confluence of the Elbow and Bow rivers for the development of an Indigenous Gathering Place. On February 15, 2022, the Notice of Motion was passed unanimously.

A bit of background: On May 26, 2021, the City of Calgary and the IGP Society entered a Memorandum of Understanding where the parties committed to working together towards the establishment of an Indigenous Gathering Place. This commitment was validated through a smudge and a pipe ceremony.
