There is a perfectly legal way to shake down corporations and the wealthy. It's called taxes. We could try that instead...

We fought WW2 against fascism.
Logically and semantically, if you’re against ANTIFA, then you’re pro fascism.
And that’s anti-American.

Today I remembered chain letters. Like, postal letters you had to forward on to burden your friends with, or else suffer bad luck. Please don't tell Zuck about this, or he'll try turning it into a forced-engagement feature...

1/2 Just had a lovely mentoring call with a new graduate of my alma mater. I think she will do well (no thanks to me). For whatever reason, I've gotten more mentoring requests through the alumni network, and It's been nice helping this new generation...

1/4 Capitalism thrives under a democracy. But a democracy is not meant to be subservient to capitalism.

Democracy is a system of government where power is vested in the people and is meant to protect and defend the people, promote welfare and ensure our freedoms...

The thought recently occurred that we live in a 'capitalism' and not a democracy. The distinction can be hard to comprehend if you've not taken civics (and gutting education will ensure no one ever does...) This article covers some of what I've been worrying over.

Remember as Twitter goes down today, that US cyber-security is being dismantled. So current or future outages may be from state actors, not internal incompetence.

Twitter goes down and I see celebration, not concern, like in the old days.

A large book-piracy site points out that countries without copyright concerns have huge advantages in training their AI LLMs

Yes, copyright law protects original authors. But moreso, large corporations. So now what, if the dinosaurs don't evolve?
Copyright reform is necessary for national security
Chinese LLMs (including DeepSeek) are trained on my illegal archive of books and papers — the largest in the world. The West needs to overhaul copyright law as a matter of national security.

I noted today ALL the headlines were screaming “disaster”. It’s algorithms optimizing for stridency, for clicks. So our thinking becomes extreme too.
We're marinating in an algorithmically-intensified stew, forgetting what is real and human. Everything is demonized, dehumanized, disconnected.

I remember thinking how terrible it was that oligarchs were taking over, and nothing could stop them because they were in cahoots with the top guy in government.

This was Russia though.

Cyber-warfare.
Not just hackers looking to get data or spread malware, but state actors and corporate espionage.
