Well, to use an example from my own film SINISTER, Ellison Oswalt WANTS to be successful and famous again, he NEEDS to reconnect with his family, his GHOST is his past failures as an author including framing an innocent man, and his LIE is that success will fix everything going wrong in his life.
Listening back through @davechen.bsky.social's Write Along podcast, one of the best on screenwriting. The episode on KM Weiland's character development model (the Want, the Need, the Ghost & the Lie) is thought-provoking. @crobertcargill.bsky.social do you have a favorite example from horror films?

Starting work on a new screenplay today, it will be the best I've ever written. Until I write the next one.

Tony Todd was a real one. An ICON. He donated his time with free acting classes for underprivileged kids. He was a *massive* supporter of indie horror including Paper Street. But more importantly, he was just a damn good dude in an industry sorely lacking them.
Blah. This hurts.
