Eriosyce occulta, single plant with fruit. It does this every autumn, sometimes two at a time, not always with actual seeds. Never got any of it to germinate, though; probably should research it for real at some point.

Adenium obesum, "Rik Ni Ran" cultivar, grafted. Adenium obesum cultivar from a cultivator in Taiwan, Mr Ko. He has since retired but his nursery used to be the hot thing in the 2010s. This one, he called "Star of Black Night". Yes, they all had names like that; I will bet it's an awkward translation into English.

Hard to tell with these plants, so far out of their native habitat. They are either blooming because they are content or giving you a final show before they curdle and die. You don't get to find out until autumn whether the post-bloom curdle is death or dormancy.

Monilaria moniliformis. Conophytum obcordellum declinatum, surrounded by (clockwise from left) some gibbaeum, adromischus, Ihlenfeldtia, mitrophyllum, titanopsis. Most if not all conophytum, when shedding old leaves like these, should not be watered. Mitrophyllum grande. These are dormant and very turgid from the ambient humidity. The cluster started from a single plant from Mesa Gardens

Photo taken with a normal phone camera. Cluster of T. reticulatus flowers. The flower stalks harden to hard spikes after the flowers die off. This cutting has bloomed before but the spikes had to be trimmed off while it was recovering from a mystery infection. This is the first time the plant has bloomed since. Nikon D780 with kit lens and Kenko extension tubes on a tripod with focus rail. Macro shot of a couple of T. reticulatus flowers. Each is about 8 to 10 mm long and 3 to 5 mm across. They are odorless to me but then, I'm not a bug.

Give it a bit of time to get a bit warm. There is a clump of the same plant in our yard that came from a single seed that some bird dropped. I found the seedling and moved it. They do this in late spring, then keep at it all summer.

A blooming clump of a creeping plant. I don't know what it is. Mixed groundcover sedum with sporadic asiatic lilies. When your MIL succeeds spectacularly, planting various peonies in random spots in the yard. Some kind of extremely slow-growing dwarf lilac.

Photo of a mature plant, approximately 15 cm tall. Purchased as a rooted cutting in 2016, already with a dense reticulate crown leftover from previous inflorescence. The plant was oozing pink goo when it arrived and had to be rehabilitated for 20 months before going back into the pot for another attempt at rooting. That process took another two years. The crown had to be trimmed off because you can't walk near the thing without it snaging on something. I keep it in a heavy pot to force me to be careful when I move it. It is growing in full sun, inside a wire cage built to protect it from squirrels and birds. T. reticulatus is classified as "Least Concern" but its population in habitat is declining due to aggressive collection. When I bought it in 2016, I only checked its conversvation status and assumed it was grown from seeds (the seller had a solid reputation and had been in business for decades--definitely enough time and experience to have grown such plants from seeds). Although it was diseased on arrival, it had the magnificent weathered look only found in habitat-collected plants, especially caudiciforms. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. So, well. Shit. I have since gone into several rabbitholes, learned some depressing shit and hardened on what plants I will and will not buy. Still, I own a habitat-collected plant. I am embarrassed that I have it, but here we are. Oh, and it is blooming for the first time. At least I didn't fucking kill it.

As an aside, I experiment with pots as well and mostly stay away from glazed ones--no patience to learn it. Maybe for taro.
I've tried pumice pots, too; but they took up so much winter space I had to ditch them until I depopulated a bit.
These will be good for tylecodon yearlings since they need to be grown hard to stay compact.

Extreme close-up of two fleshy leaves just emerging from their cotyledons. They look like a couple of sticks with green glassy bubbles stuck to them. From seeds sown in Feb2025. One-year survival rate is typically about 30 percent. It is definitely higher if you are careful and actively paying attention. (Nikon d780 with LAOWA 25mm macro and extension tubes. Plant base left over from..well, radical pruning. The top part of the plant is probably rooting (or dying) right next to it, but the rooted base might succeed, too. A nub of cactus about 1mm across, smaller than the grains of sifted lava granules used for topping. Nikon d780 with LAOWA 25mm macro and extension tubes.

Golden yellow flower with rust-colored highlights. The flower is about 1.5 cm across, almost covering the entire plant underneath. Plant stress can sometimes trigger inflorescence. This one was cut from its original etiolated base. It is either forming new roots and blooming on schedule OR blooming before it dies.

Five year-old clump of fleshy mesembs with paired leaves growing in cycles: first pair is fully separate and the second pair is separate only about a third of the way from the tips. This clump was sown in Oct 2020 from a packet of 20 seeds. This distressed clump came from the same seedling pot but never managed to really take off. Nursing them in their original pot with the rest of the rumbunctious clump has become annoying so they had to be separated.

Purchased around 2016, this was hurriedly shoved into this pot and then basically forgotten. You can spot another trichodiadema (looks like but isn't bulbosum) species in the pot and now they have to be separated.
