These comrades from Gulf South communities in TX & LA don't have the luxury of giving up. Fossil capital is killing them right now.

They came all the way to NYC to tell Chubb, AIG, Blackrock, and Citi to stop insuring & financing crimes against humanity from the Gulf South to the Global South.

The final chapter of *Learning to Live in the Dark* (@haymarketbooks.org) - www.haymarketbooks.org/books/2523-l... - is a new essay called "The Desperate of the Earth," in which I read Frantz Fanon in the context of Gaza and global climate justice. Here's where it ends up:

If nothing short of revolution can salvage the possibility of a better world, and yet if a viable revolutionary-left politics is nowhere on the horizon, then what does a life of radical commitment look like in the shadow of catastrophes that will not wait?

My new book, LEARNING TO LIVE IN THE DARK: Essays in a Time of Catastrophe, went to press this week.

I'm inexpressibly grateful to @haymarketbooks.org for publishing it and to Amitav Ghosh, Bill McKibben, Anthony Rogers-Wright, and Gus Speth for endorsing it.

There's nothing better than a cold clear morning after a snow. Even on a day like today, there is this.

I'm fighting for my fellow humans, but also for this, and for the deer who left their tracks in this snow, and who need the snow and the woods more than I do. It's all worth fighting for.
