Tracking the leaps of Leo XIV through the ranks as he popes it up longer than previous popes. (And we might check in on a few antipopes, but it does get murky.)

This administration thinks it can cancel Pride…
Oh honeybuns.
We never needed your permission in the first place.
Pride started as a riot.
If you keep encroaching on our rights, we’ll just go back to our roots.
Hint: it involves bricks.

Today #LeoXIV leaps the one and only Pope Sisinnius. #Sisinnius (that was his actual name) was pope for 21 days in 708.
Sisinnius was from Syria, which was not uncommon at this time when the Imperial power was centered in Byzantium (later Constantinople (later Istanbul)).

Leo Leaps: Today Pope #LeoXIV passed another pope of short tenure, Theodore II (also Theodore the last). Theodore was pope for 20 days (or maybe 12 days) in December 897 (or maybe February - March 898). As is clear, little is known about him, other than a few highlights.

Leo's leap for today: Celestine IV, who served only 16 days.

Celestine IV, Goffredo Castiglioni, was elected on October 25, 1241, after deliberations that had lasted over a month. As always in these centuries, the cardinals were riven with factions over temporal troubles.

Leo's next leap. As of today Leo has been pope longer than the next poor guy from history. Boniface VI was elected in April 896 and only lasted 15 days. Some say he died of gout, some say murder. There's a pretty big gap between those two possibilities.

Well he's done it. Leo has made his first leap.

As of today, 13 days after the conclave, Leo will not be the shortest serving pope. Sorry Urban VII, that's still your record.

Urban VII, local lad Giovanni Battista Castagna, was elected pope on September 15, 1590.

While not yet outlasting any previous popes, Leo has already passed two 'Pope-elects'.

Teobaldo Boccapeci was elected pope in December 1124, taking the name Celestine II. Violence broke out among the partisan cardinals even before Celestine could be consecrated. Poor old Boccapeci was wounded.
