Never seen it. What I noticed recently is the like/dislike buttons being pushed further to the right to make way for the "join" button.

I think of how media now is less episodic and the stories move forward at a more consistent pace, and how that structure is much better suited as a template for young people trying to take a shit at DMing. Is the new generations brain better wired by the new media landscape to avoid those pitfalls?

Never letting the main characters achieve any kind of permanent victory until they have been edged for 40 or so weekly episodes.
That structure doesn't lend itself for the best playing experience.

For trying to tell their story in a way that threw player agency out of the window, basing the flow of their story on serial media, the kind that would reset the status quo at the end of every adventure.

I can see how insecurity would play a part at both ends. And lack of communication skills. No shared vision on what the game would be about. But there was also incompetence. On the players to engage with the hooks properly, to understand the opportunities presented by the DM. But also on the DM...

that would allow the villain to escape or be imune to our attacks or whatever happens to fit the situation.

Players made plans away from the DM so they wouldn't sabotage it, only for the DM to still notallow us to win, their excuses getting progressively more ridiculous as we tried to antecipate their next bullshit item/power...

It felt like the DMs didn't want us to "win", either because that would mean they were loosing to us, or because it would derail the story they had on their heads. We were "supposed" to loose every other encounter in some way or another.

Everybody is focusing on the "blocking everyone", no one is talking about "moving on everyone" 🤭

Hayao Miyazaki is the artist that illustrated and animated our childhoods. He gave us so much, he is the architect of so much of our inner lives, and that's how you pay him.
