Iceland Advent - Day 3

It's time for yummy Jólaköttur, a crispy, caramel-y chocolate candy bar only available now.

Jólakötturinn (the Christmas Cat) is a giant creature said to eat those who don't get new clothes for Christmas. Minion made his own cat from pipe cleaners a couple of years ago.
On a crocheted mat of red, green and white, a lanky pipe cleaner cat wearing a gold bell on a red ribbon around its neck lurks over a delicious candy bar. A rocking chair sits cozily in back next to a window draped with soft fairy lights.

Iceland Advent - Day 1

Each year I draw a Christmas wreath on our door since it's too windy here to hang anything outside.

I think this counts for #AlphabetChallenge #WeekWforWindows. While technically it's a door, it's in a wall of floor to ceiling windows. :)

It's time for another pic of the neighborhood waterfall, I think.

The record October snowfall has almost completely disappeared.

The sun is out in full force after yesterday's storm.
The backyard mountain, the old house in its grove of trees, and the open ground between my window and them are all covered in deep powdery snow. The sky is clear blue and the sun is reflecting off the white.

Our yellow storm warning (snow) has been upgraded to orange now (more snow). And yet, all the kids still walked to school today.

I'm remembering that when Minion was in 1st grade and we lived in Pennsylvania, the kids had to have indoor recess if it was colder than 40F.

It's an unusually snowy day for October here in southwest Iceland. And the brunt of the storm isn't even projected until this afternoon!

I've put up the winter lights. They usually stay on from October until March, to help us get through the dark Icelandic days and nights.

Quite cold, brisk wind made my cheeks red and fingers (in gloves) icy.

Snæfellsjökull looking like a mini Fuji in the distance.
Wind blows a wide swath of yellow grass and scrub, while mountains loom up in the back and to the right. Where the horizon flattens out, the triangular snowy peak of Snæfellsjökull is seen in the far distance.

I miss blue skies.
