Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc

My rule of thumb is to have 1 slide per 2 or 3 minutes of the talk. A 10 minute presentation will tend to be more a survey than a deep dive unless your topic is very narrow indeed.

Gee, I guess that means my mom was too! She introduced me to Trek, the golden age SF books are my dearest inheritance from her, and she met my father when they were both programmers at the same place. Funny how these "exceptions" are everywhere!

there's a video somewhere of chamath palihapitiya saying that he used to donate millions to democrats but couldn't get a meeting, but is able to with republicans. like everyone, rich donors want to feel special. no better way to make them feel special than a WH ballroom, earning parties more $$$

And if there are no legal consequences, then it has been demonstrated that if you are rich enough and/or have a private army (not just ICE, but also MAGA), you have free rein to do whatever you want.

I figured out why it is bothering me so much. It is because it fully demonstrates that the laws don't apply to him. Not just big policy points or government process, but even the more routine stuff like permits and historical registers.
