Setups & payoffs draws your reader in using their own curiosity.

When you accidentally set up the reader and there is no payoff, it’s kind of like leading them on.

What are Setups & Payoffs?

Setups are the hints you give your reader regarding the specific ways your plot will play out. This primes them to receive this information.

Payoffs are the meaningful outcome of earlier details. They build trust between the author and the reader.
