In July I noted the Broncos second halves were ordinary, going 5-11-1 after half time up to Round 19.

They won 7 straight second halves to close the season, with holding both Penrith & Melbourne to 0 points in the second half.

Hope Madge gets the credit he deserves.

Yes, it's grand final week so why are we talking about the long gone Cowboys and the answer is that I said I would do a season review and I finally found time to do it.

Sharks trailed 15-14 in repeat sets tonight but were +2 in net total penalties (pens+set restarts)

Difference was Melbourne scoring only 2 of their 4 tries from repeat sets

All 3 of Cronulla's tries came from repeat sets
Cronulla had the most repeat sets this season at 389, 20 ahead of the Bulldogs.

As seen above they were +57 in net total penalties, receiving 9.9/game but only conceding 7.5, a difference of +2.4/game

For everyone saying "but the Dogs had a soft early draw", they allowed 18.4 points/game from Rounds 1-13 (1st overall), and just 16.3/game from Rounds 14-27 (2nd overall).

So they scored more points early against "weaker" teams, but allowed fewer points against "tougher" opponents.
How much of their success this season was down to the easy draw they had at the start? That allowed them to gain some momentum.

Dogs attack was 3rd in the NRL after 13 rounds at 25.1/game. From Round 14 to 27, they dropped to 13th at just 19.1

Also had the lowest % tries from kicks in the competition at 14%. 15% pre-Galvin, 11% after

That might work against Souths/Newcastle, but doesn't in September

Cronulla ended up with 16 repeat sets tonight. Their season average was 16.3 & four of their five tries came from repeat sets.

4/16 (25%) was higher than their season repeat set conversion at 14%
Cronulla had the most repeat sets this season at 389, 20 ahead of the Bulldogs.

As seen above they were +57 in net total penalties, receiving 9.9/game but only conceding 7.5, a difference of +2.4/game

Sharks were -4 in net errors and -2 in net total penalties (penalties+set restarts), but lead repeat sets 8-7 in the first half

Ricky should be extremely concerned.

The Sharks had 1 repeat set in the first 32 minutes, but three in the last eight, the first of which resulted in Mulitalo's first try.
Cronulla had the most repeat sets this season at 389, 20 ahead of the Bulldogs.

As seen above they were +57 in net total penalties, receiving 9.9/game but only conceding 7.5, a difference of +2.4/game
