Michigander. Yes, I do the map thing with my hand. I fact check everything.
Just checked the timeline and according to the right-wing Washington Times it was after the announcement he had died. I know I picked up the news item early - like 5 am.

My kid started her first chant today and made her mom so proud. Unfortunately my generation didn’t deliver so hers will have to. She can vote in eight more years and she is pissed. #handsoff

Sharing for Michigan friends, tip of the mitt in particular. Hope you are hanging in there. I just had an argument last week on the Petoskey News Review site with someone who thought it’s okay to eliminate the National Weather Service because he has “common sense and a barometer.”

In case anyone is wondering, this is what DEI for children looks like. How dare they!

They hate each other but it’s also really cold today.

My personal data was all stolen when my health system merged with another one from the west side of the state. It’s all over the dark web now - I might as well give it away myself and get to watch cute pet videos. Look at these bunnies!

My daughter ended up making a gingerbread Marie Antoinette.

My brother got my grandfather’s mining lamp and I got my great-grandmother’s rolling pin. My daughter and her friend used it to roll out cookies this morning.

I asked my dad what he was hungry for and he mentioned the pumpkin soup with potato dumplings his mom used to make so I’m serving jednorojski malon z rejbakami for a first course. Not sure if I did it right but I’m fascinated the dumpling texture turned out like my favorite Chinese red bean balls.

How do they get along? They commit crimes. Socs (the cat) regularly steals things off the pantry shelves in the basement (cookie mix, cocoa packets, ramen) to bring up for Honey (the dog who is scared of the basement stairs) to take into my room and eat on the bed.

Some family Labor history to start the week - the woman 3rd from the right in this photo is my great-aunt Maggie Onelio (nee Dominica Bellezza) who participated in the 1921 Women’s March in SE Kansas to block the mines to keep scabs from entering during a strike. They carried red pepper as a weapon.

Most of my connections here are Bluesky veterans who know this but for my fellow newskies, I really appreciated the ability to update my settings to require alt text for image posts. This isn’t second nature for me yet but I want to respect that it’s an important part of the platform’s culture.

It has the same vibe as the “My name is Reek” dinner party with Romney in 2016.

My state house representative, Natalie Price, and Regina Weiss, who represents an adjacent district, held a community conversation last night with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. Some notes to follow if you’re from Michigan or otherwise interested. 1/

A relatively peaceful moment with all three pets. The cats both like the dog but do not particularly enjoy each other’s company.

Too early to tell but not too early to hope - the vibe at my early voting location in Michigan was really…friendly.

God help me, I said “yes, and…” to the Coca-Cola Oreos with Popping Candy.

Celebrated my mom’s 90-somethingth birthday yesterday. Normally I give her chocolate-covered orange peel but this year it was a Harris bracelet from a neighborhood fundraiser in her favorite earth tones.

My friend Elayna, a member of the US women’s national amputee soccer team, came and inspired my daughter’s soccer team with her story and message last night: soccer is for everyone. Wishing her and the team good luck in the WAFF World Cup in Columbia next month.

A year ago my daughter and I found a kitten at her soccer practice. Socs is a bit of a freebooter and has thrown our house into utter chaos. The best thing is now whenever we see a cardboard box sitting somewhere and I ask my kid what she thinks is in the box, she says “nothing…not a g-d thing.”
