On December 9, 1945 in Manheim, Germany, General George S. Patton was injured in a traffic accident while a passenge in his limo. He lived on until December 21 when he died as the result of injuries sustained in the traffic accient.

On November 11, 1944 the court martial of PVT Eddie Slovik of the 28th ID concluded and he was sentenced to death for desertion. At his execution by firing squad in January 31, 1945, he became the only US soldier to be executed for desertion during WWII.

The 2nd Battle of El Alamein occurred 10/23/1942 to 11/ 11 and was the beginning of the end for the Panzer Army Africa Commanded by Erwin Rommel. The end of the battle coincided with the invasion of North Africa by Allied forces in Operation Torch on November 8th. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_...

An important Naval engagement in WWII, Battle of Leyte Gulf, took place October 23- 26, 1944. Submarines, surface forces and importantly, air strikes, effectivley removed the Japanese Navy as a force to be recokned with in WWII.
