Psychotherapist. Left hander in a right handed world, Londoner, greyhound lover, intermittently baffled.
Using autism as an excuse is just another way of avoiding responsibility for bad behaviour. Autism doesn’t make you mean or uncaring, just clumsy 👇

Just as psychotherapy is not a social conversation, social conversations are not psychotherapy. Therapeutic principles are not meant to be applied anywhere and everywhere. The phrase “a time and a place” comes to mind.

Word of the day is ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted by work.

I like to add ‘foreswunk’, exhausted before you even begin.

The difference between navel-gazing and therapy, is that therapy uses introspection as a force for change. The changes we seek are usually relational. Nothing actually shifts if we remain exclusively fixated on ourselves. 👇

Therapists aren’t here to make moral judgments. Moral judgments are easy but ultimately boring, they shut down curiosity and stop us openly wondering why we do what we do.
But, if ‘judging is categorizing some sort of pattern… then therapy certainly judges.’
A misconception is that therapy doesn't judge; it's more accurate to say that therapy doesn't shame. To judge is to categorize a person, thing, or action. And while therapists don't judge people, they should have some understanding of what decisions mean. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/perf...
What Is Good Therapy?
It's an oft-repeated misconception that therapy is non-judgmental, yet therapy needs to provide a space of judgment for any growth to happen.

Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed.

(Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).
