This is a photo of my black cat, Templeton, sleeping between blue flannel sheets and under a goose down comforter. Templeton's front paws are outstretched and just the tip of his nose is showing. Both the blue sheets and the white comforter have sheep patterns on them.

Grape Pie recipe

so I did it again this year!
This is a picture of a "mini" grape pie on a Christmas themed plate. The pie is approximately the same size as a pot pie, hence the name "mini". The pie has a rustic looking crust and a few lattice strips. You can see the dark purple filling in between the lattice strips.

today's results:

14 mini pies

8 +/- 60g balls of pie crust dough for the freezer (enough for 4 double-crust pies)

note: my pies are not works of art ... they are quite rustic in appearance

but they sure do taste good!

today I reduced the cooked grapes, made the grape pie filling, rolled out the pie dough, did the fiddly bits*, and baked the pies

*fiddly bits:
- egg white wash on the bottom crust
- lattice strips
- egg yolk wash on the tops
This is a photo of my cloth pastry mat, my favorite rolling pin, and a small flour-covered pie crust dough ball ready to be rolled out. There are bowls and pie tins and other baking clutter in the background. This photo shows the pastry mat, the rolling pin, one rolled out pie crust ready to be placed in a pie tin, one pie tin with the bottom crust already placed, an empty pie tin, and a bowl of flour with a spoon in it. This is my basic baking clutter. The pie pans are slightly smaller than pot pie tins.

a pie-baking weekend

earlier in the week I cooked up the grapes

yesterday I mixed up the pie crust dough, then portioned it into +/- 60g balls and refrigerated them overnight
This is a photo of pie crust dough in progress. In the background is a large bowl with the flour & lard mixture with some grated frozen butter on top. To the side is an empty tub of lard. In the foreground is a bowl containing a cheese grater with a half stick of frozen butter on top. The butter is a bright yellow color because it is Kerry Gold butter. This photo is an extreme close-up of the grated frozen butter on top of the flour and lard mixture. The butter is very yellow in color and is in little curls from having been grated on the cheese grater.
