The most diabolical part about working the night shift is getting off shift on Monday morning, going home, eating dinfast, getting a full 6-8 hours of sleep, waking up

and it's *still Monday*
a man is walking down a sidewalk and talking about yesterday 's tuesday .

For the books that stick with you- what stays in your mind the most? Characters that tug at your soul? Plot twists that leave you on the edge of your seat? Or a world you can't wait to get lost in?

For me- character connection is king, because reading is inherently empathetic.

A question for readers! What is the most memorable character you have ever encountered?

Bartimaeus from the Bartimaeus trilogy and Death from The Book Thief come to mind for me. Both break the fourth wall, and their lyrical character voices left me spellbound.

What am I reading? A Psalm for the Wild Built, by Becky Chambers! A cozy solarpunk story of robots, tea, and finding comfort in one another.

#WritingPrompt! Write the next sentence...

"She crept along the corners of the temple, dodging the eyes of attendant and worshipper alike."

I've come to accept that wildfire season is a part of life here in Colorado. It's an equivalent exchange, the price for proximity to such monumental wild beauty. And yet, every time smoke chokes the sky I wish it could be different. But nature cannot exist in a snow globe, eternally pristine.

A question for sci-fi/fantasy writers: how important is research to your writing process, and how much of it do you typically do for each story?

I'm a minimalist researcher; I'll Google basic concepts to "get the idea," but I won't let the limitations of reality hold me back from a fun concept.

A question for all the writers out there: do you choose to write in genres which are more likely to be published, or do you write what you love first and foremost?

The word sherd is unnecessary. Just use shard. It's right there. It means the same. It's pronounced the same. It doesn't look like a misspelling. You eliminate confusion. Who decided this? Who changed a single letter and declared it valid? I'd like to file a complaint with the English language

Watching Daredevil: Born Again for the first time. Wilson Fisk being forced to politely endure "We Built This City" sung by various amateur choirs is utter genius. I could watch hours of this. Give me What If...? but solely villains trapped and tortured by societal expectation

Important to note that I am NOT an artist... but here's a character from my sci-fi debut: Sarni! She's the engineer of my little starship crew, and has quite the sweet tooth. Her people are known as the B'dou: four-armed steampunk red pandas with a penchant for tinkering.

Hello, fellow writers! I'm L. B. Larson- aerospace engineer by day, writer by night.

I write science fiction and fantasy, and am currently querying my debut science fiction novel. But I've been scrawling stories on scraps of paper since I was seven.

Getting stuck while we're writing is a feature, not a bug. It's the point of the exercise. It's what happens when we are trying to express something we have not expressed before. That friction forces us to make the tools we need to understand and express it. Getting stuck is how we make meaning.
