The first death scene in 999 still looks incredible, with the direction of the gore being mostly off screen, and the deep red hues of the blood balancing between stylistic and realistic. It's an incredible way to introduce the stakes of the Nonary Game, but I don't think you could pull it off in 3D

I just finished AI Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative and looking at some of the concept art, you can really see what was lost in the transition to 3D. Unity is a great engine but I miss Uchikoshi's using 2D portraits and cutscenes to make his settings feel dynamic. 3D makes them feel wooden.
