MEI got rid of a number of programs including its Palestine one and fired very good researchers. They also got rid of their non resident affiliates across the board. The latest news is theyre promoting military & ambassador affiliates. /1

Wayne Yang this AM: Hi Bob, I've been consulting with as many people as possible, and I have a couple of thoughts: 1. Parlay about safety. I think bringing together 2 or 3 student leaders, 1-2 faculty, and 2 admin to parlay simply about the shared interest of safety for student protestors would be a good start. It helps identify leaders for potential talks later. It may also dispel some paranoia. The more the students understand that UCPD can serve their safety interests, the better. This seems especially important going into the weekend when campus affiliates might come to campus. The goal is to identify shared safety interests and start being transparent about aspects of each others safety plans. I would recommend then turning this into a daily safety parlay/checkin. 2. There are some examples now of encampments striking an agreement and coming down at Brown and Northwestern. I'm sure the students are thinking about these agreements and whether or not they are adequate for them. Those conversations can become polarizing among the student organizers themselves. Right now they are in a bit of a scary vacuum, and can only assume the worst, which will affect their willingness to come to an agreement. With mundane structures of checkin/parlay, this will open new possibilities for the organizers to compromise. Thank you for listening Wayne

The people of Sackets Harbor—and especially the school administrators and teachers—should serve as an example for us all that resistance can work. You do not need to comply in advance. The Trump administration is powerful, but not invincible. This story is a reminder to journalists that reporting on things happening in the smallest places can have the largest impact. My hats off to the local journalists who first made noise about this miscarriage of justice. I feel fortunate that I could help amplify it, and that we can celebrate this small but powerful victory. And we can rest a little easier knowing the third grader will finally get to see the welcome home banner hung by classmates with love.
