I started singing as a boy treble in my local parish church of St John's Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.

I was also heavily involved in the RSCM Northern Cathedral Singers, and my parents spent many Saturdays taking me to sing in cathedrals all over the north of England.
Mathius canticles and anthem at evensong this afternoon. Spiky!

Today is Stir-up Sunday - the day people traditionally make Christmas puddings.

The name comes from the collect for the day in the Book of Common Prayer: “Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people...”

Are you making a pudding today?

Often when it says 'W' it's shorthand for William, and I wonder if his friends called him Willy? 🤷‍♂️

Today - 22 November - is St Cecilia's Day, the Patron Saint of music.

It is also the Choral Evensong Trust's 10th anniversary - our Patronal Feast Day, if you will.

The thing about Select Vestry meetings is that they are simultaneously far too long, and not long enough to discuss everything properly.

I used Cloudflare for the new church website to ensure it's super fast and fault tolerant. Today it was neither.
The new church website has suffered from some downtime related to the global Cloudflare outage this afternoon.

Saint Cecelia's Day is not until Saturday, but as next Sunday is the feast of Christ the King, we celebrated today with the Howells arrangement of Hymn to St Cecilia. And a bit of Stanford Jubilate in C.

St Mary's Pro-Cathedral has been designated as Dublin's Catholic cathedral. This comes on the 200th anniversary of the cathedral being built, and on St Lawrence O'Toole's Day - patron saint of Dublin.

Hey David, what's for dinner this evening?
Thou feedest them with the bread of tears: and givest them plenteousness of tears to drink.

I got through the rehearsal without my reading glasses, but I'm double checking I have them for the service.

On the eve of the feast of St Laurence O'Toole, patron saint of Dublin, we have a quiet little ditty of Parry I Was Glad!

The road closures for the Dublin Marathon seem more restrictive this year, which isn't great for a singer trying to get into a city centre parish church. But after a lengthy detour I made it.
