Also, got to say, translator Ursula Phillips deserves any and all kinds of awards for carrying this through!
Finished Part 1 (admittedly, have a long way to go). This is pretty magnificent, I have to say.
Got this in the post yesterday (thanks @headofzeus.bsky.social!) - honestly, I've been waiting years for this! It's widely considered to be THE Polish SF masterpiece. 1000+(!) pages, and finally in English. Can't wait!

I am going to lay down pretty good money that the Anglo sf/f world completely ignores this book

no sandworms, no potato farming.
come for the aliens and the whole blowing up galaxies thing, stay for the accurate depiction of large scale network architecture
at this point this damn thing is going to be 200,000 words and half of them would be "quantum", though i'm taking it easy on "nano". mostly using made up words anyway. but the book's spot on on network architecture.

the giant space opera (tm) is crawling its way up to 180,000 words with much use of the word "quantum" to mean, hell, i don't know either. but it's quantum! <waves hands dramatically>

Every year I vaguely think "you know, we should re-issue this in a new print edition" and then promptly do nothing about it

I mean, I don't want to be all @adamroberts.bsky.social and be like "well, but but *I* wrote a book about this" but, you know, I *did* write a book about Jesus, and I'm not entirely sure that "Christ’s response to violence is to turn the other cheek" is entirely borne out by the source texts
