It’s clear from interviews at the time that the space Vietcong narrative was giving way to an upbeat, Campbellian romp. And you can’t say his assessment of the mid 70s zeitgeist was wrong - it’s what made Star Wars a hit! But that hit movie isn’t a polarising Vietnam allegory any more.
