Almost two years ago, I got to meet the co-writer of the last two MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies, the great Erik Jendresen…and, like a total gentleman, he didn’t even mind that I wore my “Written by Tony Gilroy” shirt to the gathering. Bring on the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE finale. Bring on the ANDOR finale.

Sad news to wake up to, but my first thought about the legendary Gene Hackman is simply “thank you” for such an extraordinary career and body of work. Whether in comedies, dramas or comic book fantasies, the pure power and precision of this man’s ferocious acting talent will always astound me.

In honor of John Williams’ 93rd birthday today, I think it’s worth noting that in 1993, he “only” had two film scores released — both released within mere months of each other, both incredibly different from one another, and both unforgettable, masterful entries in a legendary life’s work.

In going through pics I took during my first visit to the Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta nine years ago, I found one that particularly moved me today: A framed photo of young Lt. James Earl Carter dedicated to his dear Rosalynn.Thank you for being an exceptional human being, Jimmy Carter.
