The game of Danse Macabre was fantastic; we were playing in the foothills of Armenia in the middle ages. Though its set in a later period it reminded me of one of my favourite films.

The murder mystery was regency themed and I forced everyome to dress up but they took to their characters extremely well. My mum played a psychic from the continent and I had to buy a specific remote controlled light to do effects for the seance she ran.

Had great fortnight of gaming. I kicked things off with a themed battle royale, then ran a murder mystery larp for my entire family. Last Sunday I got to playtest @stillfleet.bsky.social 's Danse Macabre, on Monday night played @jdragsky.bsky.social 's Yazebas B&B, and on Weds launched Mechritter.

Oh sorry did we finish our Kickstarter campaign? Hell yeah we did and we funded just under a stretch goal, which is weirdly, a superior option because it gives me a little bit more flexibility to decide what I do and don't want to add to the game.

To celebrate, here's a reveal of one of the pregenerated obstacles from the Everest chapter: the Khumbu Icefall.
Spread with text detailed in the next two images The Khumbu Icefall sits at the foot of the Khumbu Glacier, where a steep drop causes ice to move extremely quickly and become misshapen as it moves. At the top of the icefall, huge blocks of ice carve away from the upper glacier. Crevasses over 50 feet wide and 300 feet deep open up. These move and change location every year, creating a constantly shifting maze of scars in the glacier, many impossible to traverse. As the ice from the top of the glacier drops to the bottom, it twists and cracks. The pressure of the glacial flow causes hundreds or thousands of new crevasses to open up. They are crossed using rickety steel ladders, ferried up the mountain by sherpas and set out by the first team to plot a route across the icefall. At the very base of the fall, these crevasse fields fade away and are replaced by a maze of debris and smaller blocks of ice. Snow bridges concealing crevasses can collapse with little or no warning, leaving a climber falling into the void. Large blocks of ice, called seracs, can weigh thousands of tons and can fall over with no notice, crushing whoever is unlucky enough to be beneath. Steel ladders can slip or rungs break off. Camp I sits at the top of this icefall. Some climbers must traverse it multiple times to acclimatise to the altitude. Class Struggle on the Icefall. Plotting a course through the icefall is almost always conducted by local Nepalese climbers employed by tourism companies, who must not only find a relatively safe route through the moving glacier, but must do so while setting out ropes and ladders which have to be carried up the route. This is the most dangerous job on Everest. Sherpas who carry it out are sometimes known as ‘Icefall doctors”. But even those who aren’t responsible for setting out the route may have to cross the Icefall 15 or 16 times carrying supplies for expeditions; as opposed to tourists who may only have to traverse once or twice. In 2014, sixteen Nepalese workers, all climbing Sherpas, were killed when a 16,000 tonne serac slid down the glacier and struck them as they set out the route. This was the worst disaster in the history of Everest, and provoked more than just grief among the Sherpas. At the time, an insurance payout for a dead Sherpa’s family was just $10,000. The government offered a measly $400 in additional compensation, which would barely cover funeral costs. This provoked rage. The Sherpas threatened to strike. The tourism agencies responded by spreading rumous that some sherpas had threatened the others if they continued to work, and sending ringleaders off the mountain. Wealthy adventure tourists were furious. They had paid good money to get up Everest, and they wouldn’t be able to do so without the support of the workers; carrying their bags and equipment, laying lines, and guiding them up and down. Their attitude to the grieving workers was that of inconvenient background figures. Some saw them as little better than property. Still, the boycott continued. The Nepalese government eventually agreed to force the tourism companies to purchase $15,000 worth of insurance instead of $10,000. The 2014 season had to be cancelled. But wages are still extremely low; especially compared to the $60-100,000 dollars tourists fork out on a trip.

Last night I spent a good while designing a back cover for this game.

I ended up being pretty proud of it; it does what it says on the tin, is a good middle ground between nonfiction book and rpg.
