Trump is once again running to the Supreme Court. His administration has asked the justices to block a D.C. appeals court ruling that determined he lacked the authority to dismiss Shira Perlmutter, the director of the U.S. Copyright Office.

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

Almost no countries were spared from President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs; even small, uninhabited islands in the Indian Ocean were included in the exhaustive list. But one country was notably missing: Russia.
Why did Russia escape Trump’s tariffs?
The U.S. already imposes heavy sanctions on Russia but still did approximately $3.5 billion in trade last year

“Uh oh... Trump's making history": he's the 1st president since the S&P 500 was created in 1957 to inherit a bull market & turn in a loss of at least 5% at this point in his presidency.

This isn't like other early declines. Trump took a bull & is turning it into a bear.”

I'm happy to see more folks I know on Bluesky; it would be really nice to see the community building more quickly. In times like these, it doesn't feel like a wise idea to be using a communications platform that Mark Zuckerberg can change so much.

This is the sharp edge of Tr•mp's full-scale assault on higher education in the United States. This could well hobble research across the full spectrum of scientific fields. Together with his attacks on NIH grants and 15% caps on overhead charges, the goal seems to be to destroy university finances.
“NSF fired about 10 percent of its staff at the end of Tuesday, removing 168 people who included most of the agency’s probationary employees and all of its experts, a class of contract workers who are specialists in niche scientific fields.” — www.politico.com/news/2025/02...
