How do infants come to understand complex visual objects, such as for social/affective communication - e.g.…...

We know responses to facial expressions change from 5 to 7-mo. But here, 5- & 7-mo were more alike, perhaps bc the task isolated responses invariant to face identity. We found exploratory associations between 👀 & 🧠, but beware: they are uncorrected for multiple comparisons ⚠️.

In this work with the wonderful Katherine Perdue, Hannah Behrendt, John Richards, Alissa Westerlund, Julia Cataldo, and @CharlesaNelson1, we localized fNIRS channels to anatomical ROIs & found robust responses to happy, fearful, and angry faces in temporal & frontal cortex 🧠👶
