Matidia Minor. Because why put a statue of yourself in pudicitia pose above the porta regia of a theater when you CAN HAVE THIS.

Well, this past month has certainly been full of lows, but there’s also a high I’m now allowed to share publicly: I was selected to receive this year’s Richard K. Lublin Teaching Award. This honor means more to me than I can express in words right now.

And here’s my own photo of the Nemi theater frescos w a backstage image. I like this one because you can see the different kind of shoes cast aside after a performance or being made ready to wear.

I just crossed off three squares on my ‘say no to things’ punch card. (I have to find my hole punch to finish the job).

Please clap.

For no reason at all it may be a great time for everyone to (re)read Newfield’s The Great Mistake.

I’d always been taught the Tiberius-Germanicus adoption was the context of the Grand Camee dF so the increasing popularity now of the 50-54 and Claudian date always takes me aback. But the hairstyle arguments seem totally fair! If so, look at this little Nero.

Day 1: begins with Lucan themed tote bags. This is the best.

Those at CAMWS, come one, come all to the Centro happy hour! Free snacks and drinks. You don’t have to be an alum to partake. You do have to be a Rome nerd.

My neighborhood as coyotes and ppl have been discussing how to protect smaller pets during breeding season when food is less prevalent. This led to me learning about the Coyote Vest. Look at this dog. Punk AF.

Pumped to be @ this plenary session led by renowned novelist & PhD, Hernan Diaz, inspired by his book Trust, about challenging fossilized narratives about grad Ed & who is left out based on narratives about the past.

* wish yesterday’s panelist was here. Room packed. For a fiction writer.

About to hear the magnificent Julie Posselt drop some knowledge about how to lead structural, equity-based change in graduate education. Her work has transformed the way I think about equity based practices in PhD education.

This book seems all kinds of wild but my real question is: is the title a joke about Lucan’s poetic quip about Nero’s farts/Nero’s poetry while he was shitting? Because it seems so and that is a deep deep Nero nerd cut.

These now belong to me and I am so excited.

But also if you have any conservative or center-right relatives who love Hillbilly Elegy and think Vance is awesome, suggest this book. It isn’t explicitly partisan. It is very persuasive. /4

Saw Alanis last night and absolutely want to know where to buy her oversized, gray, bedazzled T-shirt that said ‘perimenopausal’ across the front.

OTD in 68 CE Nero took his own life. Less famously on this same day six years earlier in 62 he had his first wife, Octavia, executed after popular riots in her favor. Many forget about Octavia when they think about imperial women and their relationship w the people, but she’s well worth remembering.

Loving that the boat scene in Ripley Ep3 begins w the Anzio Nero looking out over the water as they head into the open deep.

Romanists: a quandary. If the Terme museum owns the original Epaphroditus mega inscription, why is the original outside and a cast is inside? I usually associate casts with ‘we think this is important for our collection but don’t own it’ not ‘it’s in the back yard.

I am in love w this inscription. This lady was leading her best life.

Im ALL CAPS excited to tell everyone on here to go and read my super smart colleague’s new book. It’s an innovative look at how trauma theory can reveal new stories Greek tragedy. It’s certain to be a ‘must read’ for anyone interested in ancient drama or anyone interested in trauma theory.
