One-off protests don’t win anything. MLK Jr on general protesting: “The mistake I made [in Albany, GA] was to protest against segregation generally rather than against a single facet of it. Our protest was so vague that we got nothing…”

I love these protests being planned, but protest without action items or demands is one-off self-serving activity, not a movement. Let’s do some real organizing at these protests. Gather info, call for donations to special elections, tell people to go to town halls? We need actions!!

This is going to hurt SO many people. We are already struggling with a student loan crisis in this country, and now we rather slap more pain onto these people than ask the wealthy to pay their fair share. There needs to be MAJOR backlash to this plan. Educate everyone you know to fight this.

I had a great time presenting on philanthropic foundations and democracy at University of Kansas last night. Yay for Zoom! I hope I didn’t make everyone suspect of billionaire philanthropists. JK, they should be! But seriously, we need to keep talking about big philanthropists and their power.

As Give to Women and Girls Day approaches, think of what populations we aren’t serving. If women- and girl-serving nonprofits only receive 2% of U.S. donations, we can only assume these groups greatly need our help. Here’s another org to think about

As Give to Women and Girls Day approaches, think of how we can reach indigenous populations as well. If women- and girl-serving nonprofits only receive 2% of U.S. donations, we can only assume these groups greatly need our help. Think about giving to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.

First up, on Give to Women and Girls Day (Oct 11) consider the YWCA, either your local or national chapter. Their mission: “to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.”
October 5, 2023 at 1:19 PM
Donations to women- and girl-serving nonprofits only accounts for about 2% of donations in the United States. October 11th is Give to Women and Girls Day! I’ll try to post great orgs you can consider, but what are some of your favorites????
