Heartwood by Amity Gaige will likely end up as one of my top reads of the year.

It’s *sort of* about the search for a young nurse who has disappeared while hiking the Appalachian Trail, but don’t go into this one thinking it’s a thriller or a mystery. It’s really a meditation.

Just finished What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown (while in stunning Botswana on safari) and it is one of my favorite books of the year so far.

I think I need to write a whole essay on how one thing said to us by one person just one time can affect the whole trajectory of our lives and career.

The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen is the first Secret Stuff Book Club pick of the year. Lots of drama around this 2001 novel that won the National Book Award and ranked #5 on the NYT Best Books of the Century.

When I read Elizabeth Strout, I understand more about the world. Can you imagine a better legacy?

(If you’re new to Strout, don’t start with her latest Tell Me Everything. It’s too deep into her universe. Start with Olive Kitteridge or My Name Is Lucy Barton.)
