Climate Adaptation and urbanism geek. Living my best cottegecore dreams from my townhouse. On unceeded Wurundjeri land - originally from Aotearoa. ND - BP2.
The 'random junk people have dumped in the community garden' leveled up over the weekend. This one isn't going to fit in my hard rubbish pile.

Fun little drain garden outside Coburg Leisure Centre - I see drain gardens being taken out a lot now - without regular specialized maintenance they don't work as intended. Often the maintenance requirements weren't understood at install and are too much for the owners.

The Mackintosh font is very Glasgow. A bit random for industrial Melbourne.

Just casually helping the kids clean their room and now I have questions. Who's hand is this? We don't know. Where is the rest of them? No idea.

Someone left this old energy monitor for me at work. They found it in the shed. Would have been peak tech in its time - it's still got the original price tag on - $264 AUD. You can get a reasonable equivalent of this for $40 AUD now.

What do we think? Very large house mouse? Forgot my banana for scale - not Antechinus because tail too long. Suburban Melbourne

I'm pretty sure this is the exo-skeleton of a case moth caterpillar. Google lens keeps trying to convince me it's the exo-skeleton of a mantis shrimp - despite noting I am many kms in toand. I guess a bin chicken back from holidays could have dropped a shrimp? Pretty sure I win this one google

Going to the Dentist isn't so bad when you can walk there up the creek.

Goats are perfect for blackberry control on slopes. There isn't actually any goats in this picture - they didn't seem to be there this morning - having a long lie in?

Interesting choice to drive this big SUV/Ute thingy around with the company's commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030 plastered all over.

City of Melbourne posting this at the same time as the announcement no Greenline is amusing (for sad policy people like me). Seems like the finger is being pointed pretty hard at the State Govt.

I love trees that thrive in hostile environments.

The green roof at the Scottish Parliament is still going strong. Once again a turf roof. If you look closely you can see a gorse bush growing over the side which I'm sure wasn't in the original planting pallet. It's a decent size which makes me wonder if they decided to leave it?

Built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, the Gollachy Ice House has a turf roof. Ice from local ponds was stored in it and used by the fishermen to keep the salmon catch cool before transporting to market. The turf roof is in excellent condition

There's a few things going on here - I suspect no irrigation and the jasmine growing up the back is failing, as well as aggressive cutting back of the grasses. I bet this looked amazing as a detailed design drawing, but handed over to someone who doesn't understand the maintenance requirements

Absolutely stunning wasp nest. Yes they are evil but they build amazing structures 🐝

Bit of a 'scorched earth' approach to weed control being taken by the Council along Rani's patch on the Upfield Urban Forrest. Will be interesting to see what comes back after all that weed killer

Beautiful day.

I really like the urban arbour tram stop project by Yarra Trams. I do wonder if the hardenbergia will get dense enough to offer much protection. I've got a very dense hardenbergia arch in my garden but it has a much bigger soil volume for root development. Used in a mix like this with traditional

Out letterboxing for @purplepingers.bsky.social earlier today. Had an interaction with some dude who I'm pretty sure confused socialism with communism and was very pro army. It's wild who you meet in the back streets of Melbourn's inner north.
