My ten year old: I want to get a dog I could do agility with

Me, staring at our year old border collie who a trainer described as "like a Malinois but happy": And do you want to WIN at agility?

Ten year old: Oh yeah, I love crushing people!

Me: Have you considered...the dog sitting beside you???

My one year old's current favorite song is the Reading Rainbow theme song. Not a day goes by that she doesn't ask to listen to "Bow! Bow!" at least a dozen times

Apparently all I need to do to motivate my stock is badmouth them on here, because lo and behold, we got both a kid and an egg today 😂😂😂

He's heeeeeere!!!!

Welcome to the farm, Jett! So ends kidding season 2025. This handsome guy will be wethered (castrated) and retained on the farm as a companion for a buckling I plan to bring in as a breeding prospect. If time permits, I also plan to teach him to carry a pack and pull a cart 😂

The chickens: Have one job, to fill my fridge with delicious eggs. Have they laid a single one yet? Absolutely not. They are here to eat snacks and vibe, and have told me their plan is to never lay an egg between them.

Ruby: Literally vanished from the farmyard yesterday. Could not be found for half an hour, during which a frantic search commenced. I wiped out on sheet ice during these proceedings and my entire thigh is now a giant bruise. Ruby was eventually found trapped under the barbecue cover.

Rachel: supposedly an impeccably well-bred, high producing dairy goat. Gives a small trickle of milk every day because she wants to hold the rest back for her giant baby. What about my giant baby, Rachel? WHAT ABOUT HER???

Leah: extremely pregnant. So pregnant she could kid at any moment. Forces me to wake up midway through the night to check on her. Thinks this situation is hilarious, and has told me her plan is to simply stay pregnant forever

Most of you probably saw this on IG already, but I found a surprise waiting for me in the goat shed yesterday morning 🥰🥰🥰 Got to help dry off the newest herd member and watch her stand for the first time. Both mama and baby are doing AMAZING

This spring we'll be starting up a breeding flock of Dominique chickens on the farm, too--a very old heritage breed, and the one that sparked my love for heritage livestock. I cannot wait for this, as Dominiques are some of my absolute favorite critters to have around.

They will be joining my very spoiled dairy goats, who are Nubian/Oberhasli crosses--while Oberhaslis are not a heritage breed, they're the least numerous dairy goat in the United States, so my plan is to breed my girls to Oberhasli sires until my flock is registerable as American Oberhaslis.

In case you need a break and to hear a small good thing, here are some very beautiful sheep. They're a critically endangered heritage breed called Hog Island Sheep, which only exist at living history villages and a tiny handful of private farms...
