Postdoc on water isotopes, snow surfaces, ice cores, paleo-climate, Greenland Ice Sheet, modelling; at Geophysical Institute and Bjerknes Centre in Bergen, Norway.
Au revoir Paris! 🥐 Three inspiring workshop days at #LSCE and a great start for the #ISOSAM team to do a French-Norwegian comparison of our #stablewaterisotope modelling efforts in polar #snow ❄️🧊

My magnificent colleague Sonja Wahl kicking off the lecture series we will give on #stablewaterisotopes at the Institute for Tibetan Plateau Research #ITP. 🧪

Big thanks to our host Prof. Jing Gao during our ANSO visiting fellowship Chinese Academy of Science #CAS in #Beijing! 🙏

Let me share a picture of marvelous #Jostedalsbreen on today's #WorldDayForGlaciers. 💫

#Norway is rich in glaciers and ice caps, but their number is likely to reduce by 98% by the end of the 21st century. 👇🧵

Are Norway's #fossifuels truly a source of wealth or rather a threat to it? #ClimateAction

A unique dataset gives unique opporunities 💫 We evaluate the vertical performance of the well-established polar climate model #MAR at two vertical resolutions. The model does a good job, but clearly, a high vertical resolution towards the surface is crucial above the ice sheet!

The evaluation of HySPLIT-SWIM reveals gaps in the #model physics, probably related to the vertical exchange of vapor with the snow surface.🧐

Using the back-trajectory model #HySPLIT, and the isotope distillation model #SWIM, we show that the observed isotope profiles carry signatures of (1.) the hydrological pathway during vapor transport 🧶, (2.) mixing with vapor from surface snow ❄️, and (3.) katabatic winds.💨

The air samples provide clear average water isotope profiles and their variance above the #EastGRIP camp in summer 2022. In the boundary δ18O and δD have an inversed-C-shape, while d-excess has a C-shape.

Measurements were taken from the lower 1500m atmosphere with a fixed-wing uncrewed aerial system #UAS. 🤓✈️ #UAV

The system is described in Rozmiarek et al. (2021),
amt.copernicus.org/articles/14/..., now upgraded with a radiosonde taking accurate temperature and humidity measurements at 1 Hz.

📚 New paper alert! 🧵
agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

🧪 We present a unique dataset of 465 (!) in situ measurements of the #water_isotopes in vapor up to 1500m above the #Greenland Ice Sheet.

🌍 We demonstrate the use of water isotope profiles to reveal gaps in climate model physics.

We compare three independent eddy covariance systems at the #EGRIP camp in the accumulation zone. - All three agree very well, with accuracies as in mid-latitude campaigns. 🎯 🧵(2/6)

Postdoc work can wait for a bit today—I'm out doing some after-work snow observations instead! ☀️❄️🏔️

Good bye wonderful Ærø 👋 And thanks to all participants for the inspiring, great discussions at the SNOWISO workshop!

Starting in 2025, March 21 becomes the #WorldDayForGlaciers 🧊. Living in Norway I know the white beauties' magic 🏔️❄️ - being German, I know how it is to lose all of them in the next decade. What are the costs of cultural and environmental heritage for our limitless emissions? #ClimateAction
