Fun fact: Professional Bull Riding (PBR) and National Finals Rodeo (NFR) were always held on our campus during Fall semester in the Thomas & Mack arena.

This would be a funny headline if it weren't true! The NFR is one of the largest rodeo events to close out the year, and brings lots of visitors and money to Vegas!

Mal wieder etwas aus der NFR. Pat (87) stürzt schwer. Hat multiple Frakturen und ein schweres SHT mit SDH und SAB. Sie wird nicht wach, verbleibt komatös. Die Anästhesie entscheidet sich zu Tracheotomie… und jetzt sagt noch mal jemand, die NFR ist schuld!!!!

Um mal ein Beispiel zu geben, was ich meine.. Pat. (73) ist seit 3,5 Monaten dauerhaft auf der ITS. ACVB, multiple Komplikationen inkl Wundheilungsstörungen (Dekubitus, Sternektomie), schwerste CIP, Trachealkanüle. Schafft es zu uns auf die periphere NFR.

Es geht um Qualität am Ende des Lebens. Um Gefühle. Medizin spielt keine große Rolle mehr. Wir wollen, dass alle beteiligten Personen, sich dabei so wohl fühlen wie möglich. Es ist ein Prozess. Ein Weg. Ein wichtiger Weg am Ende. Ein begleiteter Weg. Auch das macht die NFR.

Genau das. Das Problem ist, dass solche Gespräche Zeit kosten. Es ist halt einfacher pro-aktiv zu sein und zu tun, als etwas nicht zu tun. Man muss sich die Zeit nehmen zu besprechen, was das für den Pat bedeutet. Häufig sind die Angeh. dankbar, wenn wir in der NFR die Wahrheit aussprechen
