Text: happy reading during the trans rights readathon Image: a stack of blue and pink books Text: when - mar 21-31 Text: Why Participate? since trans+ people are a small part of the population, our stories are not as relatable to the general public and often buried because people do not know us personally or read about us regularly, they do not know how to respectfully interact with real live trans+ people the best thing about being trans+ is that gender norms are constantly put into question, something that benefits EVERYONE. so many cool people writing cool books you may not have considered reading before Text: How to Participate read, amplify, uplift, and support trans, indigenous gender, and gender-nonconforming stories leave reviews (don’t tag authors in bad reviews), tell your friends, hype the books you’re reading on social media tag @transrightsreadathon, #transrightsreadathon, #trr2025 on instagram, bluesky, threads, and twitter As always, you should especially try to seek out intersectional identities, esp BIPOC and disabled authors. throw money at your local trans community, trans aid organizations, gofundmes & contribute to mutual aid! call your government reps and tell them to fight for our rights. Make it known that we are real people whose rights matter. Text: Stuff to keep in mind: this is a scary time to be out, so now more than ever authors should not be required to out themselves to make their books more “worthy” of your support. You *can* highlight authors who are out publicly, but all it needs is trans/gender expansive rep to count gender is a spectrum. No two experiences are going to be identical, so it’s well worth reading and learning about as many as you can! not all nonbinary, third gender, indigenous, 2spirit, gender expansive people identify as trans, so please keep that in mind and seek out the language these people use for themselves to describe them. Be specific and mindful in your own descriptions. above all, support and uplift the real people this event is here to celebrate. Do what it takes to treat everyone respectfully, and have fun!

I asked her if she would like book donations and she said “some nice fluff” will be most helpful since their lives are stuck in a perpetual cycle of “hurry up and wait.” They have a place to go, but their living situation is “liquid” for a while. It’s easy to feel like there are people more deserving than you for any kind of charity, but focused efforts to help rebuild individual lives can have lasting effects that help everyone around you. Everyone I know who had help rebuilding their lives from major disasters or addiction or health issues or whatever else other reasons have all been far more driven to help their communities and uplift people who have had to walk their paths. Organizations and charities and mutual aid, they all cover different aspects of rebuilding. We all deserve stability and safety in this life. The fires don’t prioritize those who are “more deserving,” so let’s us at least try to help those we can.
