Highlighting makeup FX in film & TV, primarily horror/scifi. 18+ for nudity & gore.
Idk with how self serious he is, Im just expecting him to go the 'medieval werewolves were crazy serial killers' route

Though hey Id love to be proved wrong, as his Nosferatu at least had solid makeup FX.

The only movie of his Im interested in is Lighthouse cos it looks like hes actually used gloomy lighting/cinematography well in it.

The rest just look like typical grey tinted historics like that bad Neil Marshall movie about the Celts, eh

Crimson Peak - a film I liked, at that - was still rife with a load of bad digital VFX crap, which kinda sunk its vibe imo.

Del Toro's definitely been coasting off his status as the artiest 2000s horror director, even when his boner for bad CGI has gotten more grating

The 90s Mario movie is the only Mario thing I have ever had any real interest in lol

Finding info on makeup/creature FX in the Soviet Union/Eastern Bloc and China would be really cool too

Miniature FX in Soviet films at least have garnered some interest in recent years!

Post inspired by my stumbling on the website of Jacques & Frederic Gastineau who most famously did the prosthetics/animatronics for Roland Topor's Marquis

Yep! Just that the slightly more melodramatic plot with the paranoid backstabbing astronauts and the larger variety of aliens was from Rama II

And yes I loved these cameos! Arthur C Clarke berating you for dying horribly lol

Interesting to see the baboon and mandrill makeups! A fun addition to the great ape roster

Iirc the Sierra game (which is fantastic imo) is moreso based on Rama II, which was written by Gentry Lee

Mildly curious on the Rama sequels, even tho they have a bad reputation lol

I read both Rama and 2010 Odyssey Two a few years back. Clarkes prose is definitely dry but I did love that in 2010 its casually dropped that half the astronauts are bi lol.

Infuriatingly one of the few cartoons to have jackals in it. Jackals who are cooler than the rest of the insipid character designs at least
