Sam / I run makeupeffectsarchive.blogspot.com

Highlighting makeup FX in film & TV, primarily horror/scifi. 18+ for nudity & gore.
oops I misread this the first time

Yeah Howling 6's werewolf is really disappointing. Iirc it was the director who forced Todd Masters to do the human face

When Masters reused it in Tales from the Crypt he immediately gave it a snoutier face lol

I was talking to a former KNB EFX guy who revealed KNB actually contributed some stuff to the early seasons of X-Files, as Toby Lindala's team was stretched thin.

One episode KNB supplied stuff for was 'Humbug'. The infamous twin puppet was a KNB creation; the KNB team nicknamed it 'Baby Stinky'

Simpsons had some really fun critter designs in its run (the Space Coyote! iconic).

Wonder if the timber wolf model sheet was reused for that one Treehouse of Horror ep (the Flanders werewolf one)

Thinking of this photo taken during 'The 1st Annual Monster Makers Halloween Contest', orgaized by Screaming Mad George in 1987.

Its funny seeing George sitting between the fairly square-looking Thomas Burman and Dick Smith lol

In the various Steve Johnson werewolf archives for Howling 4, theres some concept art for the American Werewolf In Paris draft that never happened (only faint traces remain in the final AWIP)

Here's design drawings of the Howling 4 and AWIP werewolves that XFX did.

Oh by the way. It is not just Bad Moon that Johnson provided me with BTS pics of, but also Howling 4 and Howling 6! Including many pics of the gnarly prosthetics in both films.

Here's some pics of that monster dog from the brief nightmare sequence of Bad Moon, while we're at it!

He has pretty much shared everything, and I mean everything from the film. The main werewolf suit, its XFX HQ dummy copy, the nightmare dog puppet, the transformation makeups, and even the gore!

As well as storyboards and concept art! #WerewolfWednesday #BadMoon #SteveJohnson

If you've noticed me being coy about something the last few days, this is why. I've been talking to Steve Johnson, and he's given me exclusive BTS pics of Bad Moon!

This is only a TINY fraction of what he's shared

Happy Werewolf Wednesday fuckers! #werewolfwednesday #badmoon #stevejohnson

Some more favorites...

These movies all are cheap, artless crap, and while it's blatant false advertising, their posters are fantastic.

Thinking of this painting by Ashley Laurence, who played Kirsty in Hellraiser 1 & 2. I wonder if there's any other paintings by her displayed, because I love this.

seems the back of the card (I found this on an Ebay listing) shows more sketches of the Fallen Angel alien. Surprisingly modern-feeling design, ngl

Some assorted bits of X-Files concept art that only was made public for promotional Topps trading cards (of all things...)

A sketch of the salamander hand from 'Young At Heart', the invisible alien from 'Fallen Angel' and the alien fetuses from 'The Erlenmeyer Flask'

Concept art for the salamander mutant in The X-Files season 8 episode 'Alone'.

I don't know who drew the artwork, but the images were provided to me by Matthew Mungle, who realized the creature suit

(I should have asked him at the time).

Had to delve into my telegram convos lol but here is the story and I now wonder if my memory has embellished some aspects of it...
November 13, 2025 at 3:31 PM
Yeah that one, I always felt it was different cos its more shaggy furred and the eyes are a little different. And always in taht one pose

The sculpts prove it too
November 13, 2025 at 1:22 PM
Ah yeah, I found the first one posted on his FB as well. Weird that theres so little stuff on this film despite all the fans and merch

I found this on Sam (no relation) on Shauna McGraths insta as well. Sadly Bill Terezakis died a fee years ago so cant ask him about it...

Another X-Files makeup effects article done! This time for season 8, on which both John Vulich and Matthew Mungle contributed.

Warning for gruesome makeup effects in the article as usual for a XF post.

You know what? Fake brain props are pretty fun.

how it feels running into a brick wall when it comes to BTS material of certain 90s werewolf movies

seeing smooth collies next to rough collies is so funny though

finding more of these pics, I am obsessed

for the evil diesel model in that really, really bad Thomas & the Magic Railroad movie
November 8, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Thinking of this photo of a diesel model from Thomas The Tank Engine in a sad state of disrepair in Drayton Manor
