Old tech meets new tech and other computer related things 💽
I have been having this odd issue with video playback in brave, it will drop the audio and then the video will run really slow. Switching between DVD quality audio and studio quality audio fixes it. Usually happens after sleep. Perhaps it is time to go back to an old driver.

The plan they had before was to call every OptiPlex, OptiPlex with no numbers so you couldn't tell what kind it was. The Bios gave the number though, they did that for the newer OptiPlex 7010 and 7020. They also killed the OptiPlex 3k and 5k names which confused the person doing our audit

My boss was just concerned that the new product names would mess-up the drivers on our image. I figured they would be okay. Then they started putting "/" in the driver pack names and that's when shit hit the fan

I remember our Dell rep going through the the new names and the model number decoder. I was just thinking to myself If they want to take a page out of Apples book, look at Apple's product lineup from 1998 and consolidate more

Looks like I was using 56.64. They felt stable and UT99 ran reasonably well

Ugh I hate dealing with nVidia drivers in 98, have to jump between versions just to find something stable that also works with the game you want to run. I found a driver that was okay for a PCI FX 5200, I will try to get the version number for you

Had to take it apart when I got it as well, there were screws stuck behind the motherboard, all the standoffs and screws were also mismatched so I had to figure that out as well

BIOS chip was not reprogrammable, had to get a new one to update the BIOS

Motherboard shows up as a FuguTech M507. Can't find any branding on the board itself but it looks correct

Okay yeh, that makes no sense

Plex had the fewest technical issues when I tried it years ago, but it didn't look as fancy and it was missing integrations. I would say that my issues with Emby are with embedded subtitles, and there used to be an issue with gapless playback for flac files for some apps but I think it's resolved

Dang, well I bought Emby's lifetime premium thing a while ago so I never really think about the cost of it since it's a one time payment. The only reason I got that was so I could use the DVR function. Not sure what features they paywall or how much premium costs now

I should probably revisit Jellyfin, it has been years since I messed with it and I ended up using Emby because it felt more polished at the time
