Those are the closest thing to the now-mythical swing voters they're looking for. The anti-trans, anti-choice voters they want to try for will pat them on the head approvingly and vote R.

I don't know if they're imposed on candidates by the donors or what, but every time someone emerges who might excite voters, their staff give them "the ol Sheedy."

In private, however, Cuomo has taken a much harsher tone against the WFP. Seven people — elected officials and other individuals prominent in state politics — told POLITICO that the governor or his top staff have told them or their close associates in private conversations that he wants to destroy the party. All spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

But while the governor did not originate the idea of an actual coalition, sources say he and his staff were active in “nudging” it along behind the scenes. The governor’s interest, say knowledgeable sources, was ensuring that Republicans had control over the agenda in the Senate, so that he wouldn’t be handing over power to New York City Democrats. The governor was strongly encouraging the alliance behind closed doors, even as he set it up to absorb the blame from liberals for the failure of a number of their agenda items. In the spring of 2013, Cuomo issued a women’s equality agenda that included abortion rights protections that stood little chance of passing the new GOP-led senate. This put the alliance in a particularly tough spot, because it was being set up to fail one of its biggest public tests. When the Republicans refused to help it pass, groups like NARAL and Family Planning Advocates would slam the IDC on the issue of reproductive choice for months as the measure languished in the senate, singling out Klein by name. Cuomo finally condemned the alliance, under pressure, after he was given a choice this spring by the Working Families Party between publicly calling for the IDC to caucus with Senate Democrats and losing WFP’s endorsement and ballot line to Fordham Law professor Zephyr Teachout, who he now faces in the Democratic primary. At first the governor resisted the demand, with two sources saying he initially refused to include it in a video he recorded for WFP delegates at the party convention in late May. But ultimately he blinked and made the deal, saying in the video, “the Senate has been a problem” and “we must change the leadership of the Senate.”

Cano’s resignation from the bench halted any formal disciplinary hearings, but in a 23-page letter submitted to the New Mexico Supreme Court, he denied any wrongdoing and said he was unaware of the men’s alleged gang ties. “Let me be as crystal clear as possible,” Cano wrote. “The very first time I ever heard that the boys could possibly have any association with Tren de Aragua was when I was informed of that by [the] agents on the day of the raid.” Cano referred to the three men repeatedly as “the boys” in his letter and defended his decision to allow them to stay on his property. He said they had previously interacted with Border Patrol and HSI without any issues, and that their immigration paperwork led him to believe they were not subject to removal. “Their papers stated in the upper right-hand corner, ‘This Person is Not Subject to Removal.’ They each had a specific court date regarding their asylum hearing,” Cano stated.

California Congressman Robert Garcia just returned from a trip to El Salvador where he - and several other members of Congress -- tried to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Here is the truth: I don't think anyone trusts the Trump administration to run around the country scooping people off the streets and sending them to foreign prisons without some kind of court hearing to prove they are who the administration says they are. In the particular case of Mr. Abrego Garcia, the Trump administration admitted in a court of law that he was wrongfully detained and deported. Now Trump is even talking about doing it to American citizens, "the homegrowns" as he calls them. What we are seeing play out now is just the first step. But it's bigger than even that. The Supreme Court -- Donald Trump's Supreme Court -- ruled that his administration must facilitate the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia to this country. Trump has just decided to ignore that order, and other court orders from lower courts. He is just blatantly and objectively defying the courts, the rule of law, and our system of checks and balances. Congressman Garcia's visit helped to highlight ALL OF THIS and it's one of the reasons Trump's approval rating is sinking like a stone -- even on the issue of immigration. He deserves our thanks. The oversized homes that they're spending so much time in the the car to pay off worsen feelings of isolation.
A family of four in a 6,000 square-foot house can go days at a time without having to interact with each other in any real respect. When I was in the sixth grade, I remember visiting a friend who, rather than traverse down the massive, useless staircase, would text her mother, who was making dinner in the kitchen, or her sister who was 4 (mostly empty) rooms away.

Not as a relatively easy (in most places) form of maintenance that was the duty of citizens. All morning I've been thinking about a book last year called "They Thought they Were Free," and my hopes aren't high when I think about what these people will look upon as not their problem.
