I have been moved to write a folk song, hopefully with banjo accompaniment, about this incident. May it be immortalized.
Oh l'm an alligator hey I bask around the swamp all day There's just one thing that I don't gat Why can't a gator have a hat .. . . . . . . . . Nonny nonny hey ........ Nonny Nonny hey Dragonflies and birdies say Oh Mr Gator you'd eat us all But you can't have a hat so ha ha ha Well one day I was lurking round The sweet swamp lillies on the ground I saw a man with a fine cravat I thought why can't a gator have a hat? And so I took a little leap To scare the hat from that old creep But lookee now to my surprise He grabbed my tail and spun me twice Nonny nonny hey Nonny Nonny ho Round and round the swamp we go Nonny nonny hi Nonny nonny hee Have I got him or he got me? The man said "fella, off you get" And back I went into the wet But I didn't mind a single drop Cause on my snout his hat did drop Nonny nonny hey Nonny nonny how I'm quite a fancy gator now Nonny nonny hi Nonny nonny what I'm the only gator with a hat Yes I'm the only gator With a hat
