primary source research is expensive. the government takes your tax dollars to do this all the time. you find it abusrd, but this is basically how much grants cost to prove/demonstrate/discover... something that seems inconsequential.
My boomer mom is currently going back to look at the current prices of all the stuff she bought on Black Friday to tally up her $67.42 of savings that took 6 hours of browsing the internet yesterday.

Has to be a generational thing. Cannot imagine.

claim: half the people don't like something.
counter-claim: but 10% love it.

assertion: those 10% prove that the other 50%'s opinions are irrelevant.

typical argument i see on this platform.

imagine impulse-posting, only to almost immediately delete.. but the open protocol allows for your worst takes to be promoted, even after your knowledgebase changed.

if you're not self-promoting, you're self-incriminating.

What does this mean? Is the quoted content blocked because:
1. Original poster blocked the quoter?
2. Original poster blocked me?
3. Original poster disassociated itself from the original context?
4. I don't know. Please describe.

This is the platform of "let them cook!"

But it's also the platform of "I don't like this so this person is a bigot" and their intentions are evil... which kind of negates the "let them cook" approach.

today is thanksgiving in the united states. lots of people are cooking. some are using old hardware to cook their evening takes.

this platform cooks those who go above lukewarm.

well... @deck.blue solved this. wild! Thank you!

Happy thanksgiving to all!

A tip for @deck.blue users: You can add your Home column multiple times with different settings! 💡 I have the default Home with replies and reposts (which can be hard to follow during active hours), and a "posts only" Home that makes it easier to see and engage with new posts from those I follow 😃

You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

Performance != Growth

Computer crashed. Disk corruption. Had to download a live disk to run fsck to rewrite the inode...

Still hoping for luck, bc right now, the disk is fsck'ed.

Mean reversion day was awesome. Models nailed it. 2 model stopouts from smol, and 5 solid signals.

If only I had better resolution data... oh well. I'm scheming a new target variable. Hope to have it ready by Monday.

After a bunch of fussing around with xgboost parameters, trying to trick it into incremental improvements on batches of data, I officially give up. Performance severely degrades with incremental training. Back to strategic down-sampling.

Was at jury duty and basically just bought 4497 in premarket and set a limit to sell at 4519. Everything was fine when I left, so I set a stop at break even... and got stopped out.

4497 was July 12 low around noon, which aligned with June 30 high (practically end of quarter close).
August 9, 2023 at 1:44 AM
Traded well until the squeeze at the close. Was able to walk it down in extended trading.

Had a few new models to test, of various parameter spaces. The small models are super finicky and miss 80% of signals. The model with same params for half data worked well when data was doubled (as expected).

Today's task: restructure the training component s.t. I train on data that doesn't fit into memory. This means iterating by date ranges, generating rolling features, dropping early records before rolled features burn in, and avoiding data gaps from unburned records, using xgb incremental fit.

I absolutely could not read the market today until the first close below BGL. Then the market flushed.

Tick > 0 all morning until the turn. Models were in trend mode. News was kinda light. Price held and couldn't lift July 12 highs. Then fade.

But close on low? Not even 0dte had that kind of blip.
August 4, 2023 at 11:35 PM
Since I'm running bksy from the browser on my daily driver, I'll be able to post the models I look at intraday.

First buy was failed signal. second worked. First sell was momentum died. second signal nailed it.

Tracking error signals showing some good rebalancing events.
August 4, 2023 at 4:45 AM
Models signalled a certain type of trend day early (7:30 am ET) by way of 3 failed mean reversion signals. Not that I needed the models today. Credit downgrade needed to be worked through.

Fitch followed up with residential mortgage risk, and now it's looking like genie is out of the bottle.

One side of the road: a pool is leaking and water has been disabled to the connected homes.

Other side of the road: the internet hardware overheated from the weather. Internet connectivity is out for the neighborhood.

3rd world America.

Spotted the low of day easily. Models signalled subsequent high. Took 2 tiny trades. Chop day, 2nd in a row. Surprise! Surprise! I slept in. Something subconscious that anticipates chop. I haven't figured it out yet.
August 1, 2023 at 10:04 PM
I'm good at sleeping in on chop days. There must be something non-motivating about price action that makes waking up early not attractive.

End of day action looking like 2008. Nobody wants to be short overnight.
