Our senses light up at the perception of a simulacrum, but they barely flicker when presented with historical evidence. “This symbol we can all see means y, therefore x” is much easier to rationalize than “these a actions over b time period means c, therefore x”.

Simulacra in the hyperreal have more salience and immediacy than material within in the real. Perceptions of signification appear more palpable and violent than real violence that takes place outside of perception.

To enlist in an era of fascist hysteria is to do fascist violence. That is real—but forgiven—because the coercion of young men in the US to join the military is immediate. We bestow them with innocence.

There is far more to glean from one’s accumulated and expressed ideas and actions (particularly without the foreknowledge of future scrutiny) than a simulacrum of dead political organization.
