Why tax at all?

Nobody likes paying taxes but we need them and, like Land Value Tax, they should be simple, fair and impossible to avoid while promoting equality.

We need to understand what taxes are really for - and they aren't for what most people think!

The casino has gone mad - it will end in tears!

"Investors" don't "invest" by providing money to invent and manufacture things. They place bets by buying and selling stock - like chips in Las Vegas!

Government invests. Taxes, like Land Value Tax, keep things under control.

Keep It Simple.

Government controls the economy- not “The Bond Market”.

Government spends/invests, money circulates, tax keeps things under control/

The rest is about fairness – and Land Value Tax is the fairest of all taxes.

The government is the biggest investor in the country - it builds things we need and pays the wages of millions of people.

It is also provides security for savings.

It pays interest on savings by raising tax - and Land Value Tax is the fairest of all taxes.

Guide for those watching King and Conqueror.

Those in power fight one another to hold land to extract wealth and rent from those who work the land.

William The Bastard (WTB) of Normandy led a band a violent ruffians rampaging throughout northern France, raping, pillaging and stealing land.

People struggling to pay their rent, their mortgage and their household bills are easy prey to those offering scapegoats.

You can't blame people if the government fails to promote fairness by putting their City friends before the rest of us.

One simple step towards fairness is a Land Value Tax.

‪A government that fails to create a fairer society opens the door to those who promote scapegoating and "easy solutions". Witness flags on lamposts.

We will hold the Labour Party and its MPs personally responsible for what comes next if they fail to tax the wealthy.

Over 60% of our national wealth is tied up in land - in fields and under our homes, factories, offices, roads, etc.

In 2018 Rachel Reeves supported Land Value Tax because it is simple, fair and impossible to avoid.

What has changed her mind?

Land Value Tax is simple, fair and impossible to avoid because it taxes the use of the one asset we, as a society, own and control.

A wealth tax based on personal net assets will fail, as it has failed elsewhere, and it will make a lot of people, especially lawyers, very rich!

Corbyn has over 700,000 signups for "Your Party".

An honest man is sometimes preferable to a media-pleasing, self-serving, fake like Blair or a principle-free zone like Israel-supporting, Starmer.

McDonnell and Corbyn supported Land Value Tax.

Worth a thought ....

It turns out that non-doms, "fleeing the country", have left a lot of their wealth here in the form of property.

Actually few have left - The Daily Mail owner, and others, like living here and educating their kids here.

Wherever they go, that can't avoid Land Value Tax!

The Financial Times is obsessed with wealth taxes and why they are bad for the country. (28/07/2025)

"Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?"

Perhaps their concerned and anxious audience will flee the country?

No matter where they go, they cannot escape a Land Value Tax!

To raise more money Jeremy Hunt (Tory) cut the CGT allowance from April 2024.

The result? A fall in CGT income by 28%!

Fiddling with existing taxes may help, but people find ways round them

There is no way round Land Value Tax which is simple, fair and impossible to avoid

Since the Thatcher years, the Conservatives and Labour have systematically lined the pockets of private landlords while preventing LAs from building homes.

This is shocking.

We need to build social housing, we need to reform wealth distribution, we need Land Value Tax.

63% of our land is farmed by tenants.

Landholders benefit from tax avoidance: Rollover Relief, IHT etc.

In 1995 landholders got rid of assured farming tenancies.

We must support those who work the land.

Land Value Tax ensures all landholders contribute to the social good.

The right to hold land is a privilege granted by society - the land owner.

Land Value Tax will ensure landholders fulfil the responsibilities that go with that right since all land, no matter how well or badly it is used, will be subject to an annual LVT payment.

American bombers and American WMD under American control.

Yet no money to solve unfairness at home.

Labour must get its priorities right and raise revenue with Land Value Tax - the only wealth tax that is simple, fair and impossible to avoid.

In the UK the state (us, as citizens) “owns” the land, every bit of it.

Individuals can own things on the land, but not the land itself – they can “hold” it as freehold.

We own it and we control its use – so we should benefit from the wealth it creates – through Land Value Tax.

A PowerPoint presentation on Land Value Tax may be downloaded from the “Resources” section of the Contact page of the web site.

Please feel free to use it to present LVT to any group – all we ask is a link to the web site.

We welcome comments and suggestions for improvements.

The latest Rich List (50 richest families have more wealth than 50% of the population) makes it vital that we implement a tax on wealth – one that is simple, fair and impossible to avoid – like Land Value Tax.

As Angela Rayner said – it needs fixing – now!

Council Tax was 40% of LA spending in 2010 - by 2022 it was 60%.

See: tinyurl.com/424mny9d

Government has pushed costs onto Council Tax payers to avoid taxing the wealthy.

We need local assessment, local delivery and 100% national funding.

Land Value Tax will cover it!

Why don’t we have Land Value Tax?

* Influence/corruption. Major landholders have power, money and the media.

* Political fear and cowardice. Politicians are afraid of the tiny minority who would pay more.

LVT is simple, fair and impossible to avoid – there is nothing to fear!

“Have you made society fairer and people’s lives better?”

The answer is “no” from our major parties. People don’t want right wing politics, or idiots in charge, despite how they voted on May 1st, they do want fairness and a better life.

Land Value Tax is a step along the path.

Tax can seem complicated – full of TLAs such as LVT, PPT, LVC, CGT, IHT – and that’s before we get to Wealth Taxes and Council Tax!

Tax is very simple – it takes money out of the economy to keep it under control!

Some taxes are fair, others aren’t.
