Today's #birdtober2025 prompt is Ringed Kingfisher? Oooh I thought it was ringed Kingfisher! Like these gorgeous girl we ringed at A Rocha Portugal two years ago as part of their long term monitoring scheme.

It's the start of #birdtober2025 - I fell down a rabbit hole of exploring differences between the four extant species of banded penguins and ended up with this graphic as the end product! At first these birds seem so similar but illustrating them is a great way to notice all the small differences!

I love that this project lets me make and share things with friends every year, so it’s extra exciting to co-host this year’s #SciArtSeptember with my friend Lucy, who illustrated this week’s banner. 🌟

The tilt of a Wren’s head, the shadowed curve of a hare in long grass. The weight of an owl's gaze... Moments live again in art. 🎨

I've recently been trying to branch out from only drawing birds. Tonight, I went for a quick study of the water buffalo and I couldn't resist adding an egret perched on top

Just saw my first swifts of the year, screaming overhead in North Wales. As always I failed to get a picture so here's an old illustration instead #birdingwales

The 3:30am start was a struggle but definitely worth it to help out with my local Black grouse count. I love the Lek it Be slogan to raise awareness on the importance of not disturbing these amazing birds #birdingwales

Sketchbook throwback! This time last year, I was learning to ring a range of garden birds at A Rocha Portugal. Sketchbook pages like this are such a lovely way to remember fieldwork

South stack, ynys mon, never disappoints. This Saturday, the cliffs were full of razorbills and guillemots, watched over by a peregrine. The short eared owl was a lovely bonus. My drawings will have to make up for the lack of photos

Watching the gulls tap dance away is always a highlight of my walk home. I made a little animation of one I saw this evening.

I'm slowly making the migration over from twitter and Instagram as they become less artist friendly.
For my first post this is an old illustration of a white throated dipper, one of my favourite birds.
